5 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari – Overview

The 5 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari is a rewarding short Uganda adventure designed for travellers who want to combine close encounters with primates and classic African wildlife without including gorilla trekking. The journey brings together the tropical forests of Kibale National Park and the open savannah landscapes of Queen Elizabeth National Park, creating a varied safari experience within five well-planned days.

A major highlight of the safari is the opportunity to explore Kibale, one of Uganda’s most important primate destinations. Here, travellers venture into the forest for a guided chimpanzee trekking experience, searching for habituated chimpanzee communities while also discovering the rich vegetation, birdlife and other primates that make the forest special. The experience provides an exciting contrast to Uganda’s traditional vehicle-based wildlife safaris and is particularly suitable for travellers interested in combining primates with big-game viewing.

The journey then continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where the landscape changes from dense tropical forest to expansive savannah, crater lakes and wetlands. Visitors can enjoy guided game drives in Uganda in search of elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and other wildlife before experiencing one of the country’s most enjoyable water-based safari activities along the Kazinga Channel. A boat safari in Uganda provides excellent opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, elephants and numerous bird species around the water’s edge.

The 5 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari is especially suitable for couples, friends, solo travellers and families with older children looking for a compact Uganda safari that combines forest exploration with traditional wildlife viewing. Private transport, carefully selected safari accommodation and an experienced driver-guide allow the journey to remain comfortable while giving travellers enough time to appreciate both destinations.

Calm Africa Safaris can tailor the safari according to your preferred accommodation level, travel dates and arrival arrangements. Whether you prefer budget, mid-range or luxury lodges, the journey can be adjusted while keeping the main focus on chimpanzee trekking, wildlife encounters and some of western Uganda’s most beautiful landscapes. 5 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your Calm Africa Safaris driver-guide who will brief you about the journey before beginning the transfer to Kibale National Park. The drive takes you through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, passing small towns, farmland, tea-growing areas and rolling landscapes as you travel toward western Uganda.

On arrival in the Kibale area, you will check into your lodge and have time to relax after the journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy the surrounding forest atmosphere or take a short walk around the lodge before dinner. Kibale is one of Uganda’s most important primate destinations and provides the setting for your chimpanzee trekking experience the following day.

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the chimpanzee trekking briefing point in Kibale National Park. You will meet the ranger guides, receive instructions about forest trekking and then enter the tropical rainforest in search of chimpanzees. The experience provides an opportunity to observe these remarkable primates in their natural habitat while also enjoying Kibale’s rich forest vegetation, birdlife and other primate species.

After the chimpanzee experience, you will return for lunch before continuing to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey introduces you to changing landscapes as tropical forest gradually gives way to open savannah, crater lakes and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.

You will arrive at your lodge later in the day, check in and enjoy a relaxed evening overlooking the wilderness.

After breakfast, you will begin the day with a guided game drive in Uganda through Queen Elizabeth National Park. The morning hours are excellent for wildlife viewing as many animals are active before temperatures rise.

During the drive, you may encounter elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs and other savannah wildlife. Your driver-guide will explore productive wildlife areas while explaining the park’s ecosystem, animal behaviour and landscapes.

After the morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest before heading to the Kazinga Channel for an afternoon boat cruise. This is one of the most rewarding boat safari experiences in Uganda, offering close views of hippos, crocodiles and animals coming to the water’s edge to drink.

The channel is also known for its impressive birdlife, making the cruise an excellent complement to the morning game drive. After the boat safari, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Today gives you additional time to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park at a comfortable pace. After breakfast, you can enjoy another wildlife drive through selected areas of the park, giving you another opportunity to search for animals that may have been missed on the previous day.

The day can be kept flexible depending on your wildlife interests and preferred pace. You may spend more time exploring the savannah, photographing landscapes, watching animals around the plains or enjoying a slower afternoon at the lodge.

Having a second full day in Queen Elizabeth National Park allows the safari to feel less rushed and provides more time to appreciate one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife destinations.

Later in the afternoon, you will return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and your final night in the park.

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and begin the journey back toward Entebbe. The drive provides another opportunity to enjoy Uganda’s countryside as you travel through towns, farming communities and changing landscapes.

Depending on your flight schedule, appropriate stops can be made along the way for refreshments or lunch before continuing to Entebbe International Airport.

On arrival, your driver-guide will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your 5 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Wildlife Safari.
