7 Days Primate Uganda Safari Itinerary

Your 7 Days Primate Uganda Safari begins with a scenic journey from Entebbe or Kampala towards western Uganda, travelling through some of the country’s most beautiful countryside landscapes. After meeting your professional safari guide, you will begin your drive towards the lush landscapes of the Albertine Rift, passing through local communities, farmlands, rolling hills, and vibrant towns that showcase Uganda’s natural beauty and everyday life.

The journey takes you towards Kibale Forest National Park, one of Africa’s most remarkable primate destinations and home to a large population of wild chimpanzees. The forest is also known for its incredible biodiversity, with numerous monkey species, colourful birds, butterflies, and other forest wildlife.

Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a relaxed evening at your lodge surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the rainforest. This is the perfect opportunity to prepare for your upcoming chimpanzee trekking adventure.

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kibale Forest National Park. Known as the “Primate Capital of the World,” Kibale offers one of the best opportunities in Africa to observe wild chimpanzees in their natural environment.

During the trek, you will walk through the ancient tropical rainforest with experienced trackers who will help you locate chimpanzee communities. Along the way, you may encounter other primates such as red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys, together with a variety of forest birds and plant species.

After your chimpanzee encounter, you will continue your journey towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, enjoying beautiful views of the Rwenzori Mountains, crater lakes, and the scenic landscapes of western Uganda. Upon arrival, you will check into your lodge and relax while enjoying views of the surrounding wilderness.

Today introduces the wildlife side of your 7 Days Primate Uganda Safari as you explore the diverse ecosystems of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The morning begins with a game drive across the famous Kasenyi Plains, one of Uganda’s best areas for wildlife viewing.

During the game drive, you will search for some of Uganda’s iconic wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, and lions. The park’s varied landscapes, including savannah plains, wetlands, forests, and lakes, support an impressive range of wildlife species.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy the famous Kazinga Channel boat cruise, one of the highlights of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is also a relaxing way to experience the beauty of the park from the water.

After the cruise, return to your lodge for relaxation and overnight.

After breakfast, your safari continues southwards towards the home of mountain gorillas. The route takes you through the famous Ishasha sector, located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Ishasha is well known for its unique tree-climbing lions, which can often be seen resting on large fig trees during the day. You will enjoy a game drive through this beautiful wilderness area while searching for these famous predators and other wildlife including elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes.

After exploring Ishasha, you will continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO-recognised rainforest ecosystem and home to Uganda’s endangered mountain gorillas. The journey offers spectacular views of Uganda’s mountainous landscapes and communities living around the forest.

Upon arrival at your lodge, you will relax and prepare for the following day’s unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Today is the highlight of your 7 Days Primate Uganda Safari as you experience mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
