What to Expect
The Pre-Launch Routine
- Early Logistics: Expect an early start, often around 6:00 AM if traveling from Kampala.
- Gear Fitting: You will be fitted with professional safety gear, including high-flotation life jackets and helmets.
- Safety Briefing: A mandatory 30–45 minute briefing covers paddling commands (like "Get down!" or "Forward!"), what to do if you fall in, and how to hold on to the safety kayak.
- Practical Training: Before hitting the big rapids, you’ll practice drills in calm water, including flipping the raft and righting it
On the Water Experience
- Legendary Rapids: You will navigate up to nine major rapids, including famous Grade 5 drops like "Overtime" and "The Bad Place"
- Team Decision-Making: Before each major rapid, your guide may ask the group to vote on taking the "extreme" line (highest chance of flipping) or the "mellow" line.
- Falling In: If you choose a Grade 5 trip, expect to flip or fall into the water at least once. The deep, warm water makes this part of the thrill rather than a danger.
- Safety Net: You will be constantly shadowed by a team of expert safety kayakers and a "mother ship" safety boat that stays in calmer water for anyone who wants a break
Nature & Relaxation
- Scenic Drifting: Between rapids, you’ll float through calm stretches of the Nile where you can swim, spot over 100 bird species, and see local fishermen.
