An 11-days safari covering Uganda's full wildlife spectrum from north to southwest: rhino tracking at Ziwa, big game and Nile boat cruises in Murchison Falls National Park, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, savannah game drives and a channel cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park, gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with a Batwa cultural experience, a relaxing stop at Lake Bunyonyi, and a closing game drive at Lake Mburo.
Day by Day Itinerary
Depart Kampala or Entebbe in the morning and drive north (around 3–4 hours) to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda's only sanctuary for white rhinos, reintroduced after the species was hunted to extinction in the country during the political instability of the 1980s. Join a short-guided rhino tracking walk on foot to view rhinos at close range.
After lunch, continue north (around 2–3 hours) to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda's largest national park. Check into your lodge in the late afternoon.

Set out early for a game drive across the northern savannah, home to large herds of elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and Uganda's largest population of lions, along with regular leopard and hyena sightings across the open delta plains.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, passing pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and a dense concentration of waterbirds, including the rare shoebill stork in the right season. The cruise ends close enough to the falls to feel their spray and hear the roar of the Nile being forced through the narrow gorge.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, passing pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and a dense concentration of waterbirds, including the rare shoebill stork in the right season. The cruise ends close enough to the falls to feel their spray and hear the roar of the Nile being forced through the narrow gorge.

Start the day with a short visit to the top of Murchison Falls, where the entire Nile forces itself through a gorge just 7 meters wide before plunging 43 meters below. Afterward, begin the journey south to Kibale Forest National Park (around 5–6 hours, via Hoima and Fort Portal), arriving in the late afternoon and checking into your lodge ahead of the next morning's chimp trek.

Report to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre by 7:30 AM for briefing ahead of the chimpanzee trek. Kibale holds Uganda's highest density of primates, including roughly 1,500 chimpanzees, and the guided trek typically lasts 2–4 hours through tropical rainforest depending on how far the habituated community has moved that morning. Once located, you'll spend up to an hour observing the chimps feeding, grooming, and interacting at close range. Eleven other primate species share the same forest, so red colobus, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and l'Hoest's monkeys are common bonus sightings.

Set out early for a game drive across the Kasenyi plains, Queen Elizabeth's main game-viewing circuit, known for lions, elephants, buffalo, Ugandan kob, hyena, and leopard sightings. Return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, the waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George, holding one of Africa's highest concentrations of hippos along with buffalo, elephants, crocodiles, and a wide variety of waterbirds.

Drive south to the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions that rest in the branches of large fig trees during the day, with a game drive through the area before continuing on to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (around 2–3 hours further). The route descends into increasingly dense, hilly forest terrain as you approach Bwindi.
Arrive in the late afternoon and check into your lodge, with time to rest ahead of the next morning's gorilla trek.

Bwindi is home to roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population, spread across more than a dozen habituated families. Trekking time varies significantly anywhere from 1 to 6+ hours of hiking through dense, often steep and muddy forest depending on where the assigned family was last located. Porters can be hired locally to assist on the steeper sections.
Once the family is located, visitors are permitted one hour of observation time, watching gorillas feed, play, and move through the forest under the supervision of armed rangers and trackers. Return to the lodge in the afternoon for a well-earned rest.

A lighter day after the previous day's trek. Spend the morning on the Batwa Cultural Trail, led by members of the Batwa community the forest's original inhabitants, displaced when Bwindi was gazetted as a national park. The experience includes demonstrations of traditional hunting and gathering techniques, fire-making, medicinal plant use, and storytelling, offering insight into a way of life closely tied to the forest for generations.

After breakfast, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, roughly 1.5–2 hours away. Often called the "Switzerland of Africa," Bunyonyi is one of the few East African lakes considered free of bilharzia and crocodiles, making it a relaxing, swimmable spot to unwind after the physical demands of trekking. The lake is dotted with 29 islands and surrounded by terraced hills, with most lodges sitting right on the shoreline.
Arrive in the early afternoon with time to relax, take an optional dugout canoe ride, or visit one of the lake's islands before dinner.

After breakfast, depart for Lake Mburo National Park (around 5–6 hours), Uganda's smallest savannah park but one of its most rewarding for easy game viewing. Arrive in the afternoon and head straight out for a late-afternoon game drive. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks where zebra, eland, and impala are easily spotted, alongside buffalo, warthog, and a wide range of antelope, set against acacia woodland and wetlands.

An early morning game drive in Lake Mburo before breakfast offers a final chance to spot hippos and water birds around the lakeshore. After breakfast, begin the return drive to Kampala/Entebbe (around 4 hours), with a stop along the way for lunch.
Arrive back in Entebbe in time for an evening flight, or transfer to your Kampala accommodation if extending your stay.
